Where can you find bees as loud as jet planes
and as big around as small bouncy balls?
Where can you find enormous snails in flower beds
and three inch long centipedes with a bajillion legs?
North Carolina, apparently!
Specifically in our yard and garage.
Who knew? Certainly not us!
I am happy to report, however, that Scott thought
the centipede was a scorpion... (he got a bit confused)
and it turned out not to be a scorpion...
Thank God for small favors!
We aren't used to 'critters' so much...
and the thought of all the snakes,
including the Copperheads, that are waking up
and will soon be slithering around makes my skin crawl...
But oh my gosh it's beautiful here! There are so many different trees
and bushes...flowers and vines. There is purple wisteria
and flowering trees...so many different colors
and it smells amazing!
(I'm just gonna have to get tough where the snakes are concerned....)
It's rained a lot this spring,
which is something that is a bit unusual
according to our neighbors and Steven's
co-workers.
We love the foggy mornings and waking up to the rain...
It makes for a soggy back yard, but the kids
seem to work around that just fine.
This past weekend, Steven and Scott were out
throwing a baseball back and forth,
...while I weeded the flower bed and Mylee practiced
on her Wave. (A two wheeled skateboard.)
She doesn't have the hang of it yet,
but she's sticking with it and gets better at it all the time.
I'm happy to report there have been no major injuries thus far...
We hope to keep it that way!
Temps have already gotten up to 82 degrees,
(and that was back in the first week of March!)
and the pollen is coating all the cars in a thick
yellow dust.
It's been fun being in a new place,
experiencing the unfamiliar sights, sounds and smells.
(There are many, many birds here that have
also been enjoying the arrival of spring. Often times
it sounds like an aviary around here and we've seen many cardinals,
blue jays and countless other birds we hadn't seen much of before.)
It was an awesome weekend...we can't wait to have
lots and lots more just like it!
