The kids are swimming again...and it's a very, very good thing. It's been a couple of weeks now since they started up and when we went yesterday, I asked the manager about bringing a camera in. He said that parents do that all the time so I was happy to be able to take a few shots.
The kids had to wait for a few minutes for a lane to open up. Maya doesn't sit and wait well.
Fortunately, the wait wasn't a long one. The Ramstein Aquatic Center is pretty cool. There are two pools...the one the kids are getting into in the above shot and a smaller, play pool.
The bigger pool has nine lap lanes and there's also a diving well off to the side. You can see it back there if you look closely.
There's the play pool. They have a few little slides and then the big yellow one...only Maya and Scott don't really think it's big at all. :) They've never gone down it. I've gotten the feeling that they think it's simply a waste of their time. That's okay because they spend their time really swimming...doing laps and practicing their flip turns.
Scott is actually not unhappy in this picture...he's dealing with my camera and a low battery here. I think he stood posed for this shot for several minutes and the smile slowly waned. He was a happy camper...honest.
Here's another shot of the slide. I actually took this picture because of the flags. There are many tables here for spectators to sit at and there are also bleachers. It is well lit, the pool is clean and all of the lifeguards are really nice. There are also a lot of them watching out over the swimmers. Our first day there, one of the lifeguards befriended us. Her name is Kellie and she's actually a nurse, but she works part time at the pool. She's very sweet and we've seen her every time we've gone in.
The only thing the kids don't like is the ceiling. It's really cool...and it looks awesome, but it wreaks havoc on straight guidelines for backstroke. They have always been able to use venting or lights as a guide to keep their backstroke straight. Not so much in this pool. Ah...it's a challenge they will overcome, I'm sure of it.
See? I told you he was happy. He's wearing his sister's flippers here. He's outgrown his...time to buy him another pair.
"Mom...this dead battery thing is a real pain..." She was saying something to that effect anyway.
On our way back to the locker room after about an hour's worth of laps. Here's another shot of the kiddie pool.
Scott is laughing at Maya here because she doesn't have her glasses on and nearly went into the men's locker room. When you're a little brother, you have to get your kicks somehow.
