We've been traveling again!
After one night at home following our Carowinds adventure, we took off once more. This time we went south towards one of our favorite family spots; Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island in northeast Florida.
It's about a six or seven hour drive, depending upon the traffic. We all took a minute once we'd gotten to our hotel to chill out a bit. We stayed right on the island this time in a Days Inn. It was a bit pricey, although it was about a block away from the beach. We weren't all that jazzed about it, quite honestly...but we live and we learn.
It was just fine to hang out in...but next time we go, we're going to look into a beach house rental. I've already started planning the next trip. :)
Our first stop, of course, was the beach itself. There are more than 12 miles of beach on the island, but this was taken at the Main Beach Park near our hotel.
Apparently, I get this look no matter where we go. It came with us to the beach, too.
I LOVE the beach. I particularly love this beach. Amelia Island...Fernandina Beach...it's a personal favorite. I want to live here someday.
Scott...our toothless wonder.
Fernandina Beach Marina at dusk. So beautiful...all the masts against the blue of the sky.
On Monday, July 4th, Scotty started out the day with some bed to bed gymnastics.
Maya didn't look away from the television once. :)
It was a beautiful, sunny day and we spent some of it at the marina walking around.
We also drove around the island. I am drawn to this cemetery. It is so beautiful and peaceful with the huge oak trees draped in Spanish moss.
It's called the Bosque Bello Cemetery, which translates to "beautiful woods" and was established in 1798.
The sky was filled with fluffy, white clouds. We ate an early dinner on the patio of a restaurant called Jack & Diane's on Centre Street, (Fernandina's main street in its historic downtown near the marina,) and watched the annual 4th of July Parade. It's very Idaho Springs like...only on the ocean.
We have no pictures of fireworks this year...but for good reason. We were all swimming in our hotel pool as we watched the fireworks that were being shot over the Fernandina Beach Marina. We missed the crowd and the mosquitoes and still got to see the show.
It was a great 4th of July!
