Maya's sweet and loving and all at the same time sarcastic and witty. She's affectionate and wonderful...but here's something you might not know about Maya...not only does she have a big heart, but she finds hearts everywhere she goes.
It all started with a mole, or more of a birth mark on Maya's right arm. It's just above her elbow on her inner arm and when she was little, it was in the shape of a heart. Not so much now, however. She's grown and it's changed a bit. She was never self conscious of this mark because she loved its shape.
Since then, she's spotted hearts in the most unexpected places. She hasn't gotten pictures of them all, but we do have a little collection going and thought we'd share it here.
Maya has an iPod. It and her vast collection of books are probably the possessions she holds most dear. When we first moved to Germany, she had the big bedroom upstairs, (which is now Scott's due to his mind-blowing amount of...well, stuff.) There are many big windows up there and the light was coming in through one of them to shine on the huge expanse of white tile on the floor. She spotted this and was able to get a picture of it on her iPod.
It looks impossibly perfect, but I assure you that this photo has not been played with at all. This is what she saw. Isn't this cool?
There have been others, although not as amazingly shaped as this one was. These were tracks left in front of our house, (where many people turn around) last March after a snow storm.
I took this picture out of our classroom window. Maya, who was undoubtedly supposed to be doing math at the time, looked out to see this duo.
Here they are a bit closer.
A couple of months later, we went to London and were on top of a double-decker tour bus when she pointed and said, "Hey, mom. There's a heart."
And there was.
It was made out of horse poop...but it was a heart.
Yuck.
In June, Maya, Scott and I went to go and play at the park here in Linden. After spending time climbing around and having fun on the swings, we began our walk home when Maya spotted another heart. You have to look for this one...
See it? It's in the broken screen there on the door.
In July, the four of us went to see Monsters University. Maya had a Coke and had the cup resting on her lap. When the movie was over and we came out of the theater, she found this on her shorts:
| Disregard the big blue blobs...that has to do with the lid on a blue sharpie not being clicked on completely...and nothing whatsoever to do with a heart. |
On our way to the Ramstein base later in the summer, we spotted a lopsided heart in the clouds. Maya had to be quick to get this shot.
This one, I suppose, is debatable. Perhaps you have to be more on the imaginative side to see this one. This one may not count...but I know that I can see it.
Here's another one...Maya saw this when we were getting ready for school one morning in August.

One last one...at least for now. This was taken outside on our terrace. The kids were outside playing with Ivy Cat and Maya spotted this.
A few days ago, Maya says that she was brushing her teeth and when she looked in the mirror, she saw a heart shaped glob of toothpaste on her lip. She didn't get a picture of it, (of which you are probably grateful) and I didn't see it...but do I believe her? You bet I do. Hearts seem to follow Maya around...and she just happens to be lucky enough to find them.
