On Tuesday, the four of us climbed into the Camaro and headed east. To the beach!
We got stuck going into New Bern by the raising of the draw bridge. New Bern is where the author, Nicholas Sparks resides. A lot of his books are written about New Bern and some of the towns along the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
The kids had been cooped up in the back of the car for a few hours. They wanted to RUN!
We hung out at Union Point Park in New Bern for a bit, walking around and enjoying the beautiful 80 degree day.
The kids played on the swings before climbing back in the car.
I don't know why I like this picture so much, but I really do. After playing, both Maya and Scotty were really hot so they opted for the tops to come off of the car. Cruisin' with T's off...makes for windblown kids, but it's lots of fun, too.
We drove a short distance to the town of Beaufort. Blackbeard's ship sunk off the Beaufort inlet and the town is home to the North Carolina Maritime Museum where many of the artifacts from this ship, The Queen Anne's Revenge, can be found. It is also a popular sailing town and we walked up and down the public docks admiring all of the beautiful ships and boats. Maya decided she could live on a boat for a while and sail the ocean blue...I would love to give it a try with her some day.
After leaving Beaufort, we crossed over to the Outer Banks and stopped to play a little on Atlantic Beach.
There's a park on the beach and the kids found this dolphin just hanging around.
They found some turtles, too.
This was our first visit it Atlantic Beach. We got there at the perfect time of the day. The combination of the sun hiding in the clouds and the light in the water was absolutely beautiful.
It was peaceful and calm...and worth the hours in the car.
It was pretty cold, too.
